Dan Gilbert started New Generation Genetics in 1994 after spending 10 years with the U.S. Brown Swiss Association serving in numerous capacities, including Director of Marketing and Latin America representative.  He was born on raised on a registered Brown Swiss dairy and graduated from Iowa State University.

Dan formed the company with Sandra to work with Brown Swiss genetics exclusively.  Since inception, the company has produced some of the most iconic bulls in the breed including Starbuck, Emerald, President, Denver, Vigor, Brookings and now Cadence.  The company has exported semen and embryos to over 40 countries and has key alliances in all major dairy countries.

Today, Dan oversees the global breeding program, international marketing and overall management of the company.


 

Sandra Gilbert, Vice President

Sandra was born and raised on a dairy farm in Southeastern Wisconsin, showing cattle while in 4-H. She graduated from Madison College with a certified animal technician degree before working at the Whitewater Veterinary Clinic, a mixed animal practice.

Sandra then went on to work for Sunshine Genetics, a newly opened embryo transplant business in Whitewater, Wisconsin, as both a technician and herdsperson. After that, she moved to the Madison, Wisconsin area to work at Meadowood Veterinary Clinic as a head veterinary technician, then office manager and practice manager.

She left the veterinary world to assist in Dan’s dream of what is now New Generation Genetics. Sandra has been behind the scenes and the glue holding the operation together since its beginning, handling a variety of responsibilities from employee management to accounts receivable to packing tanks on a daily basis.


Jake Hushon, U.S. Sales Manager

Jake started with New Generation Genetics in 2008 as he was previously working for Genex Cooperative and as a classifier for the Brown Swiss Association after graduating from Penn State University in 2005. Jake is the US Sales Manager and also runs the entire Genomics Program.

Jake was born and raised on a Brown Swiss farm developing the prefix with his brothers and parents; Brothers Three Brown Swiss. He and his family have bred, owned & developed 9 All Americans, 7 Reserves, 4 Honorable Mention and 33 All-American Nominations. They were the recipient of the Outstanding Young Brown Swiss breeders in 2009 and have exhibited the Jr. Champion, Grand Champion of the Jr. Show and Res. Intermediate Champion at World Dairy Expo. Jake and his brothers still own and show cattle today. Jake also is a National Dairy Judge having officiated the Southwest national Brown Swiss Show in 2019 and the Northeast National Show in 2018, multiple breeds national Jr. shows, state fairs in 9 different states and internationally in South America, Central America & Europe.

Jake covers sales in the Eastern USA, young sire and bull Dam evaluations, is a sire analyst, the social media coordinator and manages the USA local representatives across the country among other duties. Jake lives in Pennsylvania along with his wife Wendy, and two sons Toby and Trace.


Lauren Hendel, U.S. Sales and Progeny Specialist

Lauren was introduced as the U.S. Sales and Progeny Specialist at New Generation Genetics in November 2020. 

Lauren brings diverse experience and knowledge of the dairy genetics industry. This includes experience in marketing, daughter progeny identification and photography, customer service, A.I. bull care, collection, and semen processing.  Most recently, she worked as a Genetic Consultant in southern Wisconsin.  In this role she helped customers reach their genetic goals through sire selection and mating.

Lauren’s passion for Brown Swiss began at a young age. Growing up, she was actively involved on her family’s 400-cow dairy, near Caledonia, MN and Hendel Farms has been home to registered Brown Swiss since 1922.

Lauren is a graduate of the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Animal Science and minor in Agricultural and Food Business Management. While there, she was active in the Gopher Dairy Club, and a member of the dairy judging and dairy challenge teams.
